The program, designed to address a skills shortage experienced by the building and construction industry involved 31 job seekers.

Sureway Employment and Training purchased a run down cottage then conducted a series of training events. The training involved a theory component as well as a practical component which allowed participants to practice their newly acquired skills in a workplace environment.

The practical training was supervised by licensed trades people who donated their time to the project.

All of the 31 participants were placed into work experience with local businesses with 28 finding employment and 18 securing long term employment.

Once the training was completed the house was sold with the net proceeds from the sale ($20,000) donated to the Northcott Society which used the money to purchase a much needed bus.

The HOUSE Project received the prestigious 2008 Innovation and Service Excellence Award from the National Employment Services Association (NESA).
