Helping Our Unemployed Secure Employment (HOUSE) January 2007

Launched on 23 January 2007, the HOUSE project’s aim was to help job seekers gain practical skills in the building and construction industry. This was achieved by engaging local industry and the community to support and assist in the renovation of a run down cottage purchased by Sureway.

  • 31 job seekers worked on the project.
  • They represented Mature Age, NESB, Indigenous, Youth, Parent, PWD, VLTU and HD.
  • Both male and female job seekers participated.


Measurable outcomes:

  • 31 job seekers worked on the HOUSE project.
  • 28 job seekers gained employment.
  • 18 job seekers secured long term employment.
  • Sureway won the NESA Innovation and Excellence Award
  • Net Profits from HOUSE project went directly to Northcott Society Charity ($20,000)


Northcott is an independent not-for-profit organisation that receives some Government funding, Northcott relies on the generosity of individuals, organisations and community groups to continue to provide services to people with disabilities, particularly in programs where non-government or limited support is available.
