Mervyn gets back into the swing
Mervyn has been with Sureway Wellington jobactive since 2015.
A troubled past held Mervyn back from fully engaging with employment services for some time, but the team persevered as they could see his potential to change his life.
Mervyn started to put in the hard yards – attending his appointments on a regular basis, staying in touch with the team. He even gained his Learner drivers licence, and then his P’s! Having come so far already, they wanted to keep the momentum going and Mervyn agreed to be put forward for any job that he could get.
His Consultant Catherine forwarded his resume over to Spinifex Recruiting for a position at the Suntop Solar Farm in Wellington. The team were so excited to hear the news – Mervyn’s application was successful, and he will be commencing at the Solar Farm in the near future.
When Mervyn attended the office, he expressed his gratitude for the help and assistance he has received from the Sureway Wellington team. He said that when he received the call he cried.
Catherine said, “As Mervyn was sitting there completing his onboarding materials, he could not wipe the smile off his face! In his next visit, he brought in some newspaper articles from when he was a leading apprentice jockey to show me. He is back to the man he was made to be.”
In the meantime, his employment with Spinifex is underway where he is undertaking casual work at JR Richards in Dubbo.
Mervyn is pictured here with Wellington Consultant Catherine. He agreed to a photo as long as he didn’t have to smile. Sureway is also assisting Mervyn to have his teeth fixed, he will be a confident new man in no time.
