As we reach the conclusion of our 2024–2026 Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, we pause to reflect on the meaningful progress, partnerships and conversations that have shaped our journey across the Sureway footprint.

What is RAP?

The RAP is our internal Reconciliation Action plan that works as our vision for Reconciliation. Sureway’s vision for reconciliation is for all Australians to come together to achieve a socially inclusive community through acknowledgement and respect of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and to respect, value, and celebrate their continued connection to Country, community, culture, family, language, and knowledge.

2024-2026 RAP Deliverables

The deliverables for our 2024-2026 Innovate RAP were split into four categories:

Relationships: We understand that improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and employees requires that we develop strong internal and external relationships and work cooperatively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, organisations and programs.

Respect: Through cultural education and awareness training for staff and clients, Sureway will continue to show respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Opportunities: By forming strong alliances with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and communities, Sureway aims to provide sustainable, equal job opportunities and career advancement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Sureway is dedicated to helping close the educational and employment achievement gaps for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Governance: Sureway is committed to establishing and maintaining an RAP working group to drive governance of the RAP and provide appropriate support for effective implementation of RAP commitments.

Lennie Frail - Our First Nations Programs Officer 

Since joining Sureway in 2022, Lennie Frail has played an important role in strengthening relationships, building cultural capability and supporting the delivery of Sureway’s First Nations Strategic Initiatives.

Based in Orange and having lived across several communities throughout the Central West region, Lennie brings valuable local knowledge and a strong connection to community into his role as First Nations Programs Officer.

As a proud member of Sureway’s RAP Working Group, Lennie helps oversee the delivery of our RAP commitments and works closely with staff to build understanding and confidence when supporting First Nations job seekers. Through education, guidance and community engagement, he encourages staff to learn more about their local First Nations communities and the importance of culturally informed support.

Lennie also provides support to First Nations staff across Sureway and works directly with employers and community organisations to create pathways into meaningful, long-term employment for First Nations peoples. His passion for connection, education and opportunity continues to make a lasting impact across the Sureway footprint.

Our Staff  

As of 2026, Sureway is proud to have 36 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff members across our organisation, representing 6% of our workforce and exceeding our RAP target of 5%. This achievement reflects Sureway’s ongoing commitment to creating a more inclusive, culturally safe and representative workplace.

Our Learning  

One of Sureway’s RAP deliverables was to increase understanding, value and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, knowledge and rights through learning. Sureway committed to ensuring 90% of new staff to complete cultural learning within the first 6 months of their commencement. Sureway has engaged Arilla to provide Cultural Awareness training to staff, providing management and staff with the knowledge, skills and confidence to employ, retain, partner, procure from and work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The people and culture team review and consult local Traditional Owners and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander advisors to inform our cultural learning strategy.
