Naidoc Week September 2011

Sureway, Dubbo celebrated NAIDOC week in September with an “Indigenous Careers Challenge” job seeker marketing program. This included a wonderful family barbeque and entertainment day at Victoria Park provided by Sureway in partnership with Aboriginal Employment Strategy Ltd (AES).

AES provides valuable mentorship and support to Indigenous jobseekers and employers of Indigenous jobseekers, partnering with Job Services Australia (JSA) providers such as Sureway.

As a lead up to the day our ‘top 15’ Indigenous jobseekers were promoted via local radio STAR FM, and all of them participated keenly in preparing for and participating in the event.

Early success included two job placements, strong employer and community support along with much appreciation of Sureway’s involvement from the Dubbo Indigenous community.

Manager of AES at Dubbo, Belinda Pritchell, was very pleased with Sureway’s commitment and energy for the day itself, and the range of local Indigenous employment activities. “It is great working with Sureway and AES would like to continue our partnership together assisting Indigenous jobseekers into sustainable careers” she said. Gerard Drinan, Acting AM for Orana, said the day was a credit to Sureway and AES staff at Dubbo, and was an excellent sign of the strong stakeholder relationships Sureway continues to develop in the Orana ESA. “Sureway staff at Dubbo are working hard with their Indigenous jobseekers to create and maintain successful career opportunities” he said. “The success of NAIDOC Week celebrations is a pleasing result of all their efforts.”
